HOUSTON More than 11,000 Cardtronics ATMs have been enabled and 8,000 more are being readied to allow withdrawals without credit or debit cards over the next several months through integration with FIS Cardless Cash.

Cardless Cash leverages the FIS Mobile Banking app to allow consumers to withdraw funds without using a plastic card. The app acts as a remote control for the ATM, providing convenience, privacy and security to the consumer. Consumers use the app to preorder a cash withdrawal. The app includes an ATM locator to find nearby ATMs for the consumer. Upon arrival in front of the ATM, the consumer selects Cardless Cash from the ATM menu, and the machine generates a QR code. The app scans the QR code, and once the code has been verified, the ATM dispenses the cash. The ATM presents an electronic withdrawal receipt via the app.

The 11,000 ATMs capable of Cardless Cash are located in 66 retailer locations across the country.

“Many of the banking institutions we serve use Cardless Cash on their own ATMs and are interested in making available to their account holders a card-free withdrawal option via the Cardtronics retail ATM network, including our strategic Allpoint Network FIS partners,” said Brian Bailey, executive vice president and managing director for North America. “They recognize that simplifying account holders’ lives and enhancing security helps fortify customer relationships.”

“The beauty of Cardless Cash is that consumers can just use the mobile phones in their hands, no card required.  The use of QR code technology negates the need for costly ATM hardware upgrades,” said Cardtronics’ Brad Nolan, executive vice president of Allpoint Solutions. “That is the heart of Cardtronics: reducing the high capital expense of equipment while giving financial institutions greater ability to provide their cardholders easy access to cash where and when they want it.”

“We’re pleased with the progress that has been made in integrating FIS Cardless Cash across the Cardtronics ATM network,” said Rob Lee, head of digital and banking for FIS,  Jacksonville, Fla. “For FIS customers, this partnership extends the channels available for Cardless Cash as these Cardtronics ATMs also participate in the FIS NYCE Payments Network.”

Houston-based Cardtronics provides services to more than 230,000 ATMs in North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Africa. Cardtronics’ surcharge-free Allpoint Network includes more than 55,000 locations.
