Quality Mart is teaming up with tech startup Swipeby to make it easier for Winston-Salem-area customers to order online from five Quality Mart locations for pickup or delivery within a 20-mile-radius, the companies announced Monday.

The new app allows consumers to order food items while fueling for in-store pickup or delivery.

“Customers can order ahead for delivery or at the pump while they are filling their tank. Then, we’ll prepare their order so they can grab it and go. This is an added level of convenience that we think will help us stand out from the competition and make our customers even more satisfied,” said Sam Metzler, senior vice president at Quality Oil Co., which owns Quality Mart convenience stores.

  • Quality Oil is No. 53 on CSP’s2022 Top 202 ranking of c-store chains by total number of company-owned retail outlets.

Swipeby’s platform offers online ordering, delivery pickup, marketing and geofenced notifications.

“It is pretty clear that the trend toward greater demand for ordering and delivery due to societal and convenience issues is pushing us to think broader and more outside the box in terms of our type of retail technology,” said Carl Turner, Swipeby’s chief executive and founder. “We feel these pilots with convenience store chains will say a lot to the market.”

At Quality Mart, customers at the pump can use an app to order items from the convenience store and pick them up in the store when they’re finished fueling. “We have always believed in providing our customers with the best possible products and the highest level of service each and every time,” Metzler said. “With this ordering and delivery capability, we are hoping to take customer satisfaction to a whole new level.

Retailers can promote the new order-ahead capability with signage, QR code messaging and a video at the pumps.

Swipeby was founded in Winston-Salem in 2019.

Quality Mart, a unit of 95-year-old parent company Quality Oil, is offering the order-ahead option at three stores in Winston-Salem, one in Clemmons and one in Pfafftown, North Carolina. Quality Oil, Winston-Salem, owns gas stations and convenience stores in the Southeast under the banners Quality Mart, Quality Plus and GOGAS.
