Last year, associates and customers chainwide donated more than 2,961 pints of blood during the retailer's 2009 blood drives.
Wawa associates have supported the American Red Cross blood drives for more than two decades.
During the past five years, more than 10,000 pints of blood have been collected at Wawa's drives. Wawa's blood drives are [image-nocss] open to the public. They are staffed by Wawa volunteers, who give of their time, and they donate their blood for this important, lifesaving effort; a single blood donation can help as many as three people.
As an added incentive, successful donors will receive a coupon for a free pint of Wawa iced tea or fruit drink.
The whole process of giving blood takes about an hour. The donation itself is only about 10 minutes. Most healthy people who are at least 17 years of age and weigh 110 pounds or more are eligible to donate blood every 56 days, the company said. Donors must bring the appropriate photo identification, such as a driver's license or American Red Cross donor card.
Wawa, based in Wawa, Pa., operates more than 5760 stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
