Red Bull Tries Low- and No-Caffeine Sodas

New line of 4 organic, carbonated drinks will launch in limited markets April 2

SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- Red Bull North America will debut a new organic line April 2.

Organics by Red Bull "is a range of premium organic sodas made with ingredients from natural sources," the company said. The line will include four flavors: Simply Cola, Bitter Lemon, Ginger Ale and Tonic Water.

The launch comes as Red Bull "saw the opportunity and need for a premium, organic soda line that would offer consumers a complementary product with the same quality ingredients and taste that the brand is known for."

  • Simply Cola is lightly carbonated and offers a cola taste that isn’t too sweet, the company said. The drink is "derived from multiple plant extracts like kola nut, ginger and cinnamon." As the only caffeinated beverage in the line, an 8.4-ounce can of Simply Cola contains 32 mg of caffeine, comparable to that of conventional cola beverages.
  • Caffeine-free Bitter Lemon contains citrus extracts and organic lemon juice concentrate, complemented by an herbal bitterness derived from plant extracts, the company said.
  • Caffeine-free Ginger Ale has an aromatic, spicy flavor and a warm amber color. Its ingredients come from natural sources, including ginger extracts and organic lemon juice concentrate.
  • The light taste of caffeine-free Tonic Water is from "a thoughtfully balanced blend of lemon and lime notes and a little herbal bitterness from plant extracts," Red Bull said. The sweet and sour taste is tart and dry.

The products will launch exclusively in two U.S. markets, San Diego County and a region of North Carolina, as well as through Amazon.

Organics by Red Bull are designed to complement meals, snacks and social outings, the company said. They have been certified organic in compliance with the USDA National Organic Program and bear the USDA organic seal. Like all Red Bull beverages, they are sold in 100% recyclable aluminum cans and are vegan, gluten-free, wheat-free and dairy-free.
