Weigel’s Rolls Out Newest Store Design

Features "Kitchens" foodservice concept inside, wider diesel bays outside

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Convenience retailer Weigel’s has opening a new convenience store in Clinton, Tenn. This new store--the company's 63rd--is the first to feature a new design that includes the Weigel's Kitchen ("W Kitchen") foodservice concept, as well as wider diesel fuel bays.

In the store, customers can get made-to-order food items for all dayparts at the Weigel’s Kitchens, a dedicated quick foodservice kiosk.

It serves fresh paninis, pizzas, burritos, quesadillas and hot soft pretzels that are self-ordered from a customer-friendly touch screen ordering system. Weigel’s Kitchens also makes Barista-Made specialty espresso drinks such as lattes and cappuccinos from organic espresso beans and award winning Weigel’s milk. Real-fruit smoothies with nutritional boosters are also offered as a quick healthy meal alternative.

“Many of our guests travel over the road both professionally and recreationally, so we want to have healthy and well-balanced menu items that will satisfy drivers and whole families,” said Ken McMullen, president of Weigel’s Stores. “Our new Weigel’s Kitchens allow our guests to get what they want, how they want it and be on their way.”

Weigel’s Powell, Tenn., dairy, established in 1931, continues to deliver fresh milk. Award-winning Skim D’Lite and chocolate milk are still made the old-fashioned way, crafted in small-batches. All Weigel’s milk is from local eastern Tennessee dairy farmers, and it goes from farm to table within 24 hours, said the retailer.

The new store also offers Weigel’s fresh baked goods, such as doughnuts, muffins and cookies, delivered daily from Weigel’s Knoxville, Tenn., bakery.

The convenience store also features no-fee ATMs.

And a first for Weigel’s at this busy interstate location off I-75 are four wide diesel fuel bays. Long drive-thrus on entrance and exit make access easy for professional drivers or customers traveling with RVs and campers. Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) is available at the pump, and this location is fully equipped with Comdata for convenient and quick payment solutions.

Serving our customers in an expedited way is the focus of our new store,” said McMullen. “This is our first location that’s fully equipped to service trucking professionals with large, easy-to-access diesel lanes, SmartQ technology and DEF is available at the pump.”

The retailer is planning a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Jan. 20. A special grand opening celebration starts Jan. 25 and runs through Jan. 31.

Weigel’s operates 63 convenience stores, a dairy and a bakery, all within a 100-mile radius of its corporate headquarters in Powell, Tenn.
