Thorntons plans 8-10 new stores a year

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Thorntons Inc. is planning an aggressive expansion into the Nashville, Tenn., area market as part of an effort to open eight to 10 new retail stores and gas stations annually, according to a report in the Courier-Journal.

In a statement, the Louisville, Ky.-based company said it also has growth plans in the Chicago and Cincinnati areas.

Attempts to contact Thorntons for additional information were unsuccessful at press time.

Thorntons Inc. is an independent gasoline/convenience-store [image-nocss] retailer, marketing throughout the Midwest under the brand name of Thorntons QuickCaf a and Market.

The company operates 150 gasoline/convenience stores, one travel plaza, and nine car washes. It also distributes petroleum products through the wholly owned Thornton Transportation Co. and operates a river bulk storage terminal in Louisville.
