CARRE Selects USO as Outlook Charity Focus

Original artwork to be featured in silent auction

WASHINGTON -- The 2008 Outlook Leadership conference on September 15-17 in Washington, D.C., will operate under the theme "What's Right with America." The CARRE Foundation is a prime example of this motto.

The foundation's spotlight for giving will focus efforts on the USO. CARRE is urging attendees' participation and help to pay tribute to the men and women of the armed forces, both past and present.

"The CARRE Foundation at Outlook Leadership is honored to work with the USO to convey support for our military from the convenience/[image-nocss] petroleum industry. Leading our effort is The Coca-Cola Co., which has commissioned artistSteve Penley to create an original piece of artwork to unveil and sell at Outlook Leadership as part of our silent auction. We hope that other contributions for the auction will include items relating to the patriotic message," CARRE said in a letter to attendees.

Limited-edition prints of the Penley painting will be sold at the charity desk and each $100 contributed will enter attendees into the grand prize drawing. Also, CARRE's traditional plush animals, courtesy of Mountain View Marketing, will be part of this effort.

In 1941 after President Franklin D. Roosevelt requested that morale and recreation services be provided to uniformed military personnel, six civilian agencies—the Salvation Army, YMCA, YWCA, National Catholic Community Services, National Travelers Aid Association and the National Jewish Welfare Board—united in support of the troops to incorporate the USO (United Service Organizations). For six decades, the USO has relied on the generosity of the American people to support its programs and services. More than 26,000 USO volunteers provide an estimated 371,418 hours of service annually. Military personnel and their families visit USO centers more than five million times each year.

CARRE, the Charitable Alliance of Retail & Restaurant Executives, was formed by Oak Brook, Ill.-based CSP Information Group in 2007 to spotlight charitable causes that industry executives are passionate about, with the goal of fostering stronger relationships and support within the retail community.
