Fuelco will turn back gasoline prices and provide free coffee and snacks to veterans and active service members during its inaugural Thanks to Veterans event on Tuesday, Nov. 21. The promotion, which the chain plans to make an annual event, will start with gas available for $1.99 a gallon at its Foodsmart convenience store in Yonkers, New York.

“Veterans of the United States Armed Forces made tremendous sacrifices to ensure that we can live in a free and prosperous country,” said Danny Eljamal, owner of the station and president of Danbury Gasoline Inc. “This is my family’s expression of appreciation to local veterans, so we decided to launch our annual event between Veterans Day and Thanksgiving as a gesture of gratitude.”

During the event, Fuelco is offering veterans free coffee and cupcakes from the Cupcake Cutie Boutique in Mount Vernon, New York.

Fuelco partnered with the Westchester Veterans Service Agency and its FAVOR Discount Program to offer local veterans the special gas deal. The FAVOR (Find and Assist Veterans of Record) program is an opportunity for local businesses to show support for U.S. troops while cultivating a new customer base.

“I’m happy that our FAVOR program has attracted businesses like Fuelco. They’ve been very generous, and they’ve done a great job,” said Westchester Veterans Service Agency Director Ron Tocci. “Fuelco’s gesture sets an example for other merchants, and it reminds people that we owe veterans something.”

With two store in New York, Foodsmart and Fuelco combine deeply discounted gasoline and a variety of organic, gluten-free and fair-trade snacks, along with convenience-store staples. Eljamal's family owns more than 20 gasoline stations, mostly located in Westchester County.
