WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. -- QuickChek Corp. has been named one of the Best Places to Work in New York for the third consecutive year. The New York State Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) ranked the convenience-store chain, which has 14 locations in the state in Long Island and the Hudson Valley, at No. 7 on the list of large employers.
Whitehouse Station, N.J.-based QuickChek moves up after previously being ranked 13th in 2013 and 16th in 2014.
The family-owned company operates 140 retail locations throughout New Jersey and New York. Privately held, QuickChek enjoys the distinction of being honored in both states, having been named one of the Best Places to Work in New Jersey for five consecutive years by NJBIZ magazine.
"We firmly believe in being a great place to work, a great place to shop and a great place to invest," said QuickChek CEO Dean Durling. "With over 3,500 team members in 140 stores, we look to create a positive experience and fun environment where core values are nurtured, hard work is rewarded and leadership is cultivated."
The statewide Best Places to Work survey and awards program identifies, recognizes and honors the best places of employment in New York, whose practices benefit the state's businesses, economy and workforce.
Each company is not judged by an outsider, but by their own employee base.
Most of QuickChek's vice presidents and all of its district leaders started out working in a company store. The company offers full-time employees a variety of health and welfare benefits, ranging from medical, dental and vision to life insurance, a 401(k) savings plan, fitness center reimbursement and pet insurance.
QuickChek's food and beverage program features touch screen technology which allows consumers to create custom-made oven-toasted subs, sandwiches, wraps and salads. Consumers voted the chain's coffee as the best coffee in America in a national survey conducted by Technomic.
A typical QuickChek store creates 35 to 50 new local jobs and generates approximately$1 million in tax revenue.
