Convenience-store chain Sheetz is growing its presence in Michigan.

The Altoona, Pennsylvania-based retailer first announced in November 2022 that it had plans to open its first Michigan store near Detroit. That location, at 33380 Wick Road, Romulus, Michigan, is slated to open in the latter half of 2024, Sheetz said.

Now Sheetz is eyeing two more Michigan locations—one in Romulus, on Middlebelt Road, north of Interstate 94, and one in Chesterfield on 23 Mile Road, just east of Interstate 94. Timing of the opening of these locations is not yet final, Sheetz said in its newsletter announcing the expansion plans.

  • Sheetz is No. 12 on CSP’s 2023 Top 202 ranking of U.S. convenience-store chains by size.

Sheetz has entered an ambitious period of new-store growth, expanding its reach to the west. Sheetz is expanding into western Ohio, with plans to open approximately 20 convenience stores in Dayton over the next five years. And in July 2022, Sheetz said it plans to expand its presence in western Pennsylvania by as many as 30 locations within the next three to five years.

Sheetz operates 670 convenience stores across its six-state footprint, which includes Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland.
