The Burlington distribution center will serve Sheetz convenience stores in North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.

The $32.8-million facility will contain a Sheetz Bros. kitchen, distribution and warehousing center for the Sheetz distribution fleet. There will also be space for various corporate support departments. Samet Construction built the 250,000-square-foot distribution center.

The event was kicked off with welcoming remarks from CEO Joe Sheetz, Frank Scott, director of operations at the Burlington facility, Raymond Ryan, executive vice president distribution center and McCrory, followed by the official ribbon cutting, lunch reception and tours of the facility.

"We are pleased to call Burlington home to our Distribution Center. Burlington and the surrounding communities have embraced Sheetz, and we are honored to be a part of this community," said Joe Sheetz. "We were strategic with picking this location because of the convenient access to highway and work force; it will allow us to provide the freshest and best-quality products to our friends in the South. Sheetz's focus is to grow our food and beverage business, and this facility is necessary to accomplish this goal."

The company broke ground on the 40-acre site last July. It began training in October and has scheduled the first shipment to go out on December 9.

"The future of Sheetz's business is on food and beverage; a location like Burlington will help serve the southern region more efficiently. This facility will enable us to better serve our customers and to continue to expand our offerings in our stores in North Carolina, southern West Virginia and southern Virginia. The state of the art distribution center has created over 250 new jobs in North Carolina and has provided an economic boost to the community," said Sheetz.

Established in 1952 in Altoona, Pa., Sheetz--with more than $6.6 billion in revenue for 2013--operates more than 482 convenience stores throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina. It provides a menu of Made-To-Order (MTO) subs, sandwiches and salads, which are ordered through touch-screen order-point terminals. All Sheetz stores are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
