McDonald’s Expands McCafe Lineup

Burger giant tests a trio of new specialty coffees

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- McDonald’s is testing three new specialty coffees at select locations in Northern California. Caramel Macchiatos, French Vanilla Cappuccinos and Americanos are now available in both hot and iced versions at units in and around Modesto, Stockton and Sacramento, Calif.

Nearly 170 McDonald’s locations in those Northern California areas recently received new equipment to make the drinks, as well as hot chocolates, mochas and lattes.

This development comes on the heels of McDonald’s announcement that it will begin strengthening its focus on beverages in general; the company has lowered the price for a cup of its coffee to $1. The $1 price point is also in place for all fountain drinks.

Oak Brook, Ill.-based McDonald’s sees coffee as a category that still is ripe for growth. “Coffee remains a significant opportunity for us,” said Chris Kempczinski, president of McDonald’s USA, in February. “There’s so much more we can do with this.”
