McDonald's U.S. Sales up 2.8%

Confident in "right strategies" for economic environment
OAK BROOK, Ill. -- McDonald's Corp. reported Monday that global sales at restaurants open at least a year rose by 1.4% in February compared to the year-earlier period. However, the month was a day shorter than last year's, which included an extra day for the leap year. Adjusted for that, same store sales grew 5.4% globally.

U.S. same-store sales increased 2.8% -and were up 6.8% excluding the segment's calendar shift-due to the strength of McDonald's chicken line-up and its core menu, as well as beverages and breakfast.

CEO Jim Skinner said in a statement, "We remain [image-nocss] confident in the fundamental strength of the McDonald's business. We have the right strategies in place to grow the business for the long-term, and we have the operating experience to manage through the current environment."
