BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. When Stewart’s Shops recently encountered supply-chain issues with its traditional coffee cups featuring a maroon logo, the Ballston Spa, N.Y.-based retailer made lemonade out of lemons.

With National Coffee Day on the horizon Sept. 29, Stewart’s Shops partnered with media outlet Two Buttons Deep and held a coffee cup decorating contest.

“Due to supply chain issues, our coffee cups with the iconic maroon logo are temporarily out of stock and we need to dress up our new ones,” Stewart’s Shops posted on its website. “Grab one of the new blank coffee cups and let your creativity brew. Watercolors, crayons, colored pencils, Sharpies, use anything you want and make the cup your own. The cup is your canvas to create your own masterpiece.”

Local art teacher Elizabeth Rossback won for her Upstate New York themed cup. It comes complete with the area’s Twin Bridges, a horse and jockey, apples and Stewart’s logo.
