BP Sells Stations in Akron Area

Giant Oil Inc. expands beyond Florida turf with purchase of 26 Ohio sites

AKRON, Ohio -- BP has sold 26 Akron and Canton, Ohio-area high-volume gas stations to Giant Oil Inc., a Tampa, Fla.-based petroleum retailer, reported The Beacon Journal. BP did not disclose terms of the transaction.

As the Florida market reached its saturation level, Giant Oil was looking for new acquisition throughout the central and southeastern United States, the company said.

Founder Basem I. Ali opened the first of the company's current nine facilities in the summer of 2005. With this deal, Giant Oil will have a total of 35 stations, all in Florida and Ohio. It now markets [image-nocss] BP/Amoco, Marathon and Voom gasoline products.

Amenities at the Florida locations include the Voom convenience store (pictured) and the B. Fly Caf a, which specializes in coffee, submarine sandwiches, salads and pizza.

The Ohio stations will continue to be BP-branded enterprises, a company spokesperson told the newspaper.
