Calloway Oil Adds EV Charging

Tennessee retailer partners with Nissan on three new sites

MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- Calloway Oil is the latest convenience store retailer to install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

The retailer, which has more than 20 E-Z Stop stores in Tennessee, partnered with EV manufacturer Nissan on adding three DC fast-charge stations at its c-stores in Knoxville, Maryville and Lenoir City. Each charging station has cables for EVs with CHAdeMO and SAE Combo type connectors.

Calloway Oil, based in Maryville, Tenn., joins other c-store chains such as Spinx, Mapco, Ricker Oil, Terrible Herbst and Gate Petroleum as partners in Nissan’s “No Charge to Charge” program, which provides buyers of new Leaf EVs with two years of free public charging at a network of participating locations. No Charge to Charge taps into the EZ-Charge program, which provides a single access card that participants can use at five charging networks across the United States.

Nearly 60 c-store sites are now hosting EV chargers that are part of the Nissan program.

“Convenience stores are an excellent fit for public fast charging as it gives EV drivers a place to relax or enjoy a retail experience while charging their EVs,” said Brian Maragno, director of Nissan EV sales and marketing. The No Charge to Charge program has rolled out to 48 markets across the United States.

Other partners on the charging stations at Calloway include Brightfield Transportation Solutions, which installed the equipment; charging network provider NRG EVgo; and the East Tennessee Clean Fuels Coalition.

“These units will aid in intracity travel as well as facilitate greater intercity wayfaring, and all three of the sites are in busy, commercial areas,” said Jonathan Overly, executive director of East Tennessee Clean Fuels Coalition. The Knoxville and Lenoir City locationsare located on two interstates.

The DC fast chargers can nearly fully charge an EV battery in about 30 minutes. The E-Z Stop locations hosting them are located at:

  • 8605 Walbrook Drive, Knoxville
  • 1758 W. Broadway, Maryville
  • 1111 U.S. Highway 321, Lenoir City
