Cody's Cuts Deal With Price Cutter

University praises retailer for cents-off program

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Cody's Convenience Stores will offer two cents off per gallon on gasoline to shoppers at Ramey, Price Cutter, Price Cutter Plus and Smitty's grocery stores until the end of August, said The Springfield News-Leader, citing a joint news release from RPCS Inc. and Cody's.

With gas prices so high again this summer, we wanted to find a way to help ease the pain at the gas pumps, said Rob Marsh, director of planning and development for RPCS Inc., the parent company of the Price Cutter grocery store chain. It's just another way for us to [image-nocss] let our customers know how much we appreciate them.

Through this collaboration, Cody's c-stores will subtract two cents per gallon for customers who present a receipt for a purchase of $30 or more, not more than seven days old, from the participating supermarkets, said the report.

Meanwhile, the Missouri State University Student Government Association recently commended Cody's for giving MSU students, faculty and staff a discount of three cents per gallon on gasoline purchased at any of its stores.

The resolution was presented in conjunction with the opening of Cody's Ventures 18th store, said the report. Sean Cain, former student body president, read the resolution, written by former student body vice-president. The document expressed MSU's gratitude to Cody's for helping students at a time of financial strain.

"The merits of this program cannot be overstated," Cain said. "I have not met a single person who has not been impressed with Cody's respect and enthusiasm for Missouri State and I know it's a reciprocal feeling."

The university group began to actively seek Springfield companies to participate in the program more than two years ago. The partnership was finalized with Cody's in August 2006, the report said.

Cody's owner Curtis Jared said that people connected with MSU need only to present their zip cards to receive the discount. The location was chosen because the busy intersection is a main artery to MSU and the downtown area. "It'll be a good thing for all of us," he told the paper.

Cody's director of operations, Tom Cook, said, "[MSU] is a good partner. We earn the profits off it; they take a discount. It's a good feeling when you can help the students get their education.
