Doug Haugh has joined specialty refiner Vertex Energy as chief commercial officer after leaving his job in December at convenience-store retailer Parkland USA.

In his new role, Haugh provides strategic direction for all commercial operations of Vertex Energy, spanning from feedstock to finished products, driving the company’s growth initiatives. The Houston-based company is an energy transition company focused on the production and distribution of conventional and alternative fuels. Haugh will help build Vertex Energy into a leading supplier of fuels and related products, the company said.

“Doug is an exceptional addition to our senior leadership team,” Vertex Energy CEO Benjamin Cowart said. “His comprehensive experience, innovative approach and demonstrated skill in driving strategic growth plans are an ideal fit for this next phase of our development. We are confident that Doug's expertise and dedication will propel Vertex's commercial operations to new heights.”

Haugh has more than 25 years of experience leading growth strategies in c-stores, fuels marketing, supply and trading, renewable products, lubricants, technology and distribution sectors. He grew earnings and completed 20 acquisitions in less than four years during his time as president at Parkland USA, owned by Calgary, Alberta-based Parkland Corp. Haugh began his career at Exxon in marketing and business development.

“I am pleased to join Vertex as its chief commercial officer,” Haugh said. “As we remain committed to growth, innovation and teamwork, I'm excited to leverage the expansion and development of our assets and capabilities toward a customer-centric growth strategy into emerging markets. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues across the organization to achieve great things together.”

Haugh left Parkland USA on Dec. 2 and joined Vertex Energy on April 17. Donna Sanker took over as president of Parkland’s U.S. division following his departure.

Parkland USA, Charleston, S.C., operates a network of company owned c-stores, supplies independently owned gas stations, delivers bulk fuels, supplies lubricants and markets other related specialty products and services to customers in more than 20 states. Parkland USA is a platform for growth in the United States and provides Parkland Fuels export opportunities for products from western Canada.
