Jumpin Jimmy's Settles With EPA

Niebrugge Oil pays $210,000 for UST violations

CHICAGO -- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 has reached an agreement with Niebrugge Oil Co., former owner of Jumpin Jimmy's gas stations, on alleged violations of federal underground storage tank (UST) regulations. Niebrugge Oil will pay a $210,000 penalty.

EPA inspections from February to August of 2005 showed that Effingham, Ill.-based Niebrugge Oil failed to properly maintain USTs at 12 Illinois stations it owned and operated in Sesser, Carmi, Carlyle, Mattoon, Mount Vernon, Charleston, Herrin, Benton, Flora, Greenville, Gillespie and Farmersville.

Among the [image-nocss] violations were failure to inspect tank linings, prevent overfill, test protection systems, upgrade release detection method, monitor tanks at least every 30 days and test piping and automatic line leak detectors.

The more than 40 Jumpin Jimmy's are owned by SNC JJ Holdings LLC, Effingham.
