GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. Hypermarketer Meijer has opened eight more E85 stations in Michigan, the company said.
With the opening last month of Meijer's first ethanol pump in Warren, E85 is now available at Michigan Meijer gas stations in Jackson, Wyoming, Adrian, Holland, Northville, Taylor, Ann Arbor, Flint and Warren.
Meijer now provides more stations with ethanol than any other retailer in Michigan, it said.
We are pleased to be able to expand access to fuel alternatives across the state of Michigan, said [image-nocss] Hank Meijer, co-CEO and co-chairman of Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Meijer. Choosing E85 just got a lot easier for Meijer customers in east, central and west Michigan. We know that more and more customers are buying flex-fuel vehicles, and we want to be able to provide our customers with convenience while supporting the use of cleaner burning fuels, like ethanol.
In April, Meijer, together with General Motors Corp. (GM), CleanFUEL USA and the state of Michigan, began a collaborative partnership to increase awareness and use of the ethanol-based fuel. Since then, and as part of the partnership, local GM dealers have promoted Meijer refueling stations when customers purchase its flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs). GM currently has more than two million FFVs on the road capable of using E85 ethanol fuel and the addition of these Meijer stations will allow those drivers to choose E85.
Michigan is home to one of the largest concentrations of GM's E85 [FFVs] in the country, with more than 140,000 in use, said Elizabeth Lowery, GM vice president of environment and energy.
