Mihos Wants Wind Turbines at Christy's Markets

Mass. gubernatorial candidate, retailer wants to install equipment on gas island

BARNSTABLE, Mass. -- Former gubernatorial candidate Christy Mihos wants to place wind turbines at some of the convenience stores he owns on Cape Cod, reported the Associated Press.

Mihos, however, continues to oppose development of a wind farm in Nantucket Sound.

The Yarmouth resident went before a board in Hyannis, Mass., yesterday to make his case for locating three turbines at his Christy's Market store in the village. The turbines would be installed on top of the gasoline pump island and rise 31 feet into the air.

His goal is to eventually place turbines at 10 of his stores on Cape Cod.

Mihos ran as an independent candidate for governor in last year's election and received 7% of the vote. He co-chairs the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound, a coalition that opposes the offshore wind farm.

Hyannis-based Christy's of Cape Cod LLC has 15 Christy's Markets, all in Massachusetts. The retailer recently began rebranding its entire gas station portfolio from CITGO to Gulf Oil.
