Nassau County Stations Sold Overpriced Gas

Regular offered as premium, DA says

MINEOLA, N.Y. -- Three gas stations in Nassau County, N.Y., are being charged with selling regular gasoline at premium prices, according to a report by CBS and the Associated Press.

Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice said a four-month investigation by the County Consumer Affairs Office found that motorists thought they were getting 93-octane gasoline when it was less.

Rice said in each case, a detective from her office bought a container of 93-octane gasoline from the station. The gasoline was tested, and each one failed [image-nocss] the octane test, the report said.

She said the stations charged are Island Gas in Valley Stream, N.Y., U.S.A. Gas in Valley Stream and U.S.A. Gas in Franklin Square, N.Y.

Rice said they are charged with scheming to defraud and petty larceny.
