WASHINGTON -- The National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA) has sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) expressing the association's views on energy legislation currently pending in the House that will likely move to consideration on the floor in the coming days or weeks.
NPRA shares your concern that U.S. energy policies improve the security of our nation, assist our consumers, and protect our environment, the association wrote in its letter signed by Executive Vice President Charles T. Drevna. NPRA believes, however, that [image-nocss] energy policies that limit domestic supplies of energy resources are grounded in counterproductive measures or rely too heavily on the mandated inclusion of alternative fuels can have unintended consequences that undermine our shared objectives.
It added, NPRA stands ready to work with you and the U.S. Congress on the development of a responsible and realistic energy policy that addresses the needs of American consumers, national security and the environment.
NPRA also said that its members cannot support energy legislation that contains the following provisions:
A substantially expanded renewable fuels standard (RFS); Punitive tax policies; Harmful measures that limit domestic oil and gas exploration and production; and Damaging measures that target alleged anti-competitive behavior.
NPRA members include more than 450 companies, including U.S. refiners and petrochemical manufacturers. Its members supply consumers with a variety of products and services used daily in their homes and businesses. These products include gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, lubricants and the chemicals that serve as "building blocks" in making everything from plastics to clothing to medicine to computers.
