Samad Resolves Alleged UST Violations

Will pay $29,000 over problems at D.C. station

PHILADELPHIA -- The Samad Corp. will pay a $29,000 penalty and has certified that it has corrected all alleged violations at its CITGO gas station in Washington, D.C., to settle a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) complaint involving underground storage tank violations.

The station has three 10,000-gallon gasoline underground storage tanks and one 1,000-gallon tank used to store used motor oil.

The EPA cited Samad for a variety of underground storage tank violations including failing to test for leaks in the used oil [image-nocss] tank, failing to equip the gasoline tanks with overfill prevention devices and failing to provide proper corrosion protection for steel piping components.

As a part of the settlement, Samad has neither admitted or denied liability for these violations.
