Sinclair Offers Bio-Dino

Oil company first to offer retail biodiesel to Las Vegas public

LAS VEGAS -- Sinclair Oil Corp. said it will be the first oil company in the Las Vegas market to offer retail public access to biodiesel when 16 of its stations begin selling the alternative fuel on June 21.

To announce the distribution of the 5% biodiesel blend (B5), the company held a press conference on Wednesday at a Las Vegas-area Sinclair station.

Bud Blackmore, senior vice president of marketing for Sinclair, and Todd Cawley, national accounts manager, represented Sinclair at the event. We feel the retail customer is ready [image-nocss] for biodiesel, said Blackmore. Offering biodiesel for public consumption makes good sense for environmental reasons.

Blackmore said biodiesel lessens America's dependency on foreign oil. Sinclair is one of the largest independent American-owned oil companies and uses predominantly North American crude oil, the company said.

Las Vegas-based Haycock Petroleum Co. will supply the Sinclair locations with the B5 biodiesel. John Haycock, CEO; John Saxon, vice president for supply; and Gary Weinberg, STLE-CLS represented Haycock Petroleum at the event.

Haycock offers wholesale, retail or on site delivery; unleaded, diesel or racing fuel; automated fueling; commercial cardlock fuel locations; fleet fueling management reporting; commercial or industrial lubricants; onsite heavy equipment service; and spill response service.

Dan Hyde, city of Las Vegas fleet manager, also attended the event representing the Clean Cities Coalition (http://www.eere.energy.gov/cleancities). Its mission is to advance the nation's economic, environmental and energy security by supporting local decisions to adopt practices that contribute to the reduction of petroleum consumption. It carries out this mission through a network of more than 80 volunteer coalitions, which develop public/private partnerships to promote alternative fuels and vehicles, fuel blends, fuel economy, hybrid vehicles and idle reduction.

Sinclair Oil Corp., a subsidiary of The Sinclair Cos., Salt Lake City, is a fully integrated energy business owning and operating exploration, production, refining, pipeline, trucking, terminal and marketing assets. Nearly 3,000 gas stations in more than 20 states are branded under the Sinclair name.
