S&S Shutters Several Stations

Shortens some hours

AUBURN, Ind. -- S&S Oil Co. has closed three area gas stationsone each in Kendallville, Ligonier and Ashley, Ind.reported the Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly.

Most of the company's other area stations, formerly open 24 hours a day, now have reduced opening hours of 5 a.m. to 11 p.m, the report said.

The shortened hours affect stations in Avilla, Butler, Garrett, Hamilton, LaGrange and Pleasant Lake, Ind., as well as the company's two Auburn, Ind., locations, two Angola, Ind., locations and remaining Kendallville location. Station employees told the newspaper that the changes in opening times were mostly implemented during the past few weeks, although a worker at an Angola location said hours were first changed at that location approximately four months ago, when the business did not have enough employees to cover all its shifts.

S&S Express in Kendallville closed its doors in January, said the report. Concerning plans for that location, general manager Craig Mossberger told the paper, We don't know, and we really don't want to say anything at this time.

A Coldwell Banker Roth Wehrly Graber Realtor's sign outside the empty building indicates that it is available, the report said.

Ligonier Citgo Express also closed in January, an employee of the city clerk's office told the paper. S&S Express in Ashley closed about two weeks ago, according to an employee of S&S Express in Pleasant Lake.
