Madden NFL 09 available at 7-Eleven

DALLAS -- 7-Eleven Inc. opened up football season with a promotion in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Madden NFL Football videogames from EA Sports and the release of Madden NFL 09 today.

In late June, the Dallas-based retailer announced that it would offer an Xbox 360 playable demo DVD of the game available before the August 12 release date. The Madden NFL 09 demo, which also includes 60 minutes of NFL highlights, was free with the purchase of a Madden Meal deal.

The chain is also offering special Slurpee cups, Madden sandwiches, videogame boxes, DVDs and other NFL-related [image-nocss] offerings such as Donruss football cards showing star rookies and key players in their digital forms, added The Orlando Sentinel.

With a certain food purchase, collectors will receive one of 10 cards that detail the players' overall ratings in the game: Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys; Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts; Vince Young, Tennessee Titans; LaDainian Tomlinson, San Diego Chargers; Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings; Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers; Darren McFadden, Oakland Raiders; Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons; Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville Jaguars; and Matt Hasselbeck, Seattle Seahawks.

Other available merchandise includes the Sports Illustrated Fantasy Football special edition and NFL Highlights DVDs, along with their Slurpee drinks in premium football-theme Slurpee cups at participating 7-Eleven stores. Online contests include grand-prize tickets to Super Bowl XLIII, tickets to the Madden Bowl and a tour of EA Sports' Tiburon studio near Orlando where Madden NFL games are developed. Other prizes include videogames and tickets to sporting events.

Separately, earlier this month, 7-Eleven unveiled the Brooklyn Cyclones Slurpee. It is a mix of Mountain Dew Blue Shock with Berry Citrus flavor and comes in a limited-edition collectible 32-oz. cup adorned with an image of a Cyclones player and the team's 2008 game schedule. The specialty Slurpee cup marks the first time that 7-Eleven has tailored its proprietary beverage to a sports team.

The Brooklyn Cyclones Slurpee drink will be available at participating 7-Eleven stores in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Manhattan and The Bronx through September.
