TRENTON, N.J. -- A proposal to allow the delivery of lottery tickets to customers homes will go before the New Jersey States Assembly after receiving approval from it Tourism, Gaming and Arts Committee.
“Ticket delivery will make lottery products more accessible for players who are homebound or find it inconvenient to get to a retailer,” said the bill’s sponsor, Assemblyman John Burzichelli.
The bill—Assembly No. 4018—would require the State Lottery Commission to register and authorize the operation of courier services for the purchase and delivery solely of state lottery tickets within the State of New Jersey.
Under the bill, a courier service may charge a delivery fee for its service but may not collect any portion of the lottery winnings in connection with the courier service.
The bill also provides that the commission may establish regulations allowing for courier services to redeem winning tickets on behalf of clients, if proper steps are taken to ensure security of the customer and transparency to the public.
The bill could go before the full Assembly as soon as this month.
