As you develop new items for your menu, be on the lookout for the latest packaging innovations—many of which are exemplified in the products showcased here.
Air itself is a valuable tool in the packaging manufacturer’s arsenal, used within the layers of food and
drink containers to keep hot air in and maintain desired moisture levels. In these coffee cups from Seda North America (A), the dual layer of insulation helps avoid double cupping or paper sleeves. Fluted paper clamshells from LBP Manufacturing Inc. (B) feature a layer of naturally insulating corrugated material that can withstand warming under heat lamps and keeps the food within both hot and crisp. They’re also designed so employees can build the menu items right inside the bottom of the clamshell.
Packaging should also be an extension of a brand, and paper packaging allows operators wide printing capabilities compared to black-bottom or plastic containers. This salad or soup cup from Seda North America (C) comes from paper harvested from certified sustainable forests, and the clear top still allows the guest to see the food within. Likewise, pulp-bottom containers from Sabert (D) have been popular when paired with clear PET lids. The bottoms are compostable as well as microwaveable, and ovenable up to 400 degrees.
Consider unique packaging opportunities when catering to consumer trends for customization and snacking, such as compartmentalized, bento-style boxes from Sabert (E).
Arguably the most important role packaging plays is keeping food, and guests, safe. The new Safe-T-Fresh Grab & Go TS5X5 clamshell from Inline Plastics Corp. (F) features a tamper-resistant locking mechanism and perimeter seal to give operators and customers peace of mind along with complete product visibility.
