DeVito Lands Sweet Role in M&M's Super Bowl Ad

Brand informed fans through a teaser video

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. -- In a guest appearance, Danny DeVito will star in Mars Inc.’s 30-second commercial during the first quarter of this year’s Super Bowl. M&M’s released a sneak peek into the commercial with a video of the actor lounging in a pool of chocolate dressed as Red (see below).

The teaser, which will air during the Super Bowl pregame show, is a nod to the brand’s longtime ad featuring the red M&M emerging from a pool of chocolate. YouTube star, actor and singer Todrick Hall will also appear in the commercial.

But the teaser video isn’t M&M's first promotion for this year’s big game. Earlier this month, the brand asked fans to submit their best touchdown dance via social media for a chance to win various prizes. M&M’s also aired another commercial, this one capturing film critics’ reactions to the DeVito promo. The brand shared the reactions during the Critics' Choice Awards Red Carpet Show on Jan. 11.

McLean, Va.-based Mars produces candy brands such as M&M's, Snickers, Twix, Milky Way, Skittles and more. It has nearly $35 billion in sales.
