BALTIMORE -- Haribo, a leading maker of gummi, licorice and marshmallow candy, is expanding its line of gummi candies sold in America with the addition of Haribo Ginger-Lemon.
First introduced to the European market in 2011 and currently sold in Europe and Asia, Ginger-Lemon will be available in U.S. stores beginning in September.
The candy will be packaged in four-ounce hanging bags and is gluten and fat free.
Haribo's new flavor combination is part of an exotic flavor trend in the U.S. candy market, the company said.
"America's candy palate is evolving, so we're developing new flavors to maintain innovation in our product portfolio," said Christian Jegen, president of Haribo of America Inc. "Ginger-Lemon is extremely popular overseas, and we anticipate it will be a big hit in the U.S., especially among adults who are looking for something new and unusual in their choice in sweets. We believe the American gummi candy market has yet to reach its full potential."
Other Haribo gummi candy sold in the United States includes Gold-Bears (which the company said is the original gummi bear), Happy Cola, Twin Cherries, Peaches and Raspberries.
Founded in 1920, Haribo is the world's largest gummi, licorice and marshmallow candy manufacturer. Based in Germany, the Haribo name is an acronym for the company's founder--Hans Riegel--and its headquarters in Bonn.
