Technomic’s most recent Flavor Consumer Trend Report found “sweet and salty” flavors among the fastest-growing profiles for beverages at restaurant chains—largely due to the proliferation of salted caramel pairings for coffee, mocha and hot chocolate drinks. Additionally, 42% of consumers overall say that sweet and salty flavor combinations are appealing; that’s up from 32% who said the same in 2013.
