7-Eleven, Kum & Go Get Their Game On

Retailers announce racing, hockey, football deals

OAK BROOK, Ill. -- 7-Eleven and Kum & Go have announced sports-related deals or sponsorships:

Dallas-based 7-Eleven Inc. has extended its sponsorship with Andretti Green Racing (AGR) that will keep IndyCar Series racer Tony Kanaan in the Team 7-Eleven driver's seat. The 7-Eleven/Andretti Green sponsorship enters its sixth year in 2008.

7-Eleven has been Kanaan's sponsor since he began racing in the IndyCar Series, and sponsored AGR co-owner Michael Andretti at the Indianapolis 500 in 2003. As part of the extended [image-nocss] agreement, Andretti, his son Marco, as well as Patrick, may appear in 7-Eleven's 2008 marketing campaigns.

In addition to the Team 7-Eleven sponsorship, 7-Eleven will have a brand presence on Andretti Green's entire stable of IndyCar Series entries.

The relationship with AGR has proven to be a positive part of 7-Eleven's marketing portfolio, the company said.

The popularity of the Indy Racing League is growing among our customers, so we believe there is a natural marketing fit for us, said Kevin Elliott, 7-Eleven's senior vice president of merchandising. Also, Tony and Team 7-Eleven can showcase some of our signature products that they enjoy like daily prepared fresh foods, coffee, Slurpeee and Big Gulp drinks plus our recently branded 7-Eleven gasoline.

The Saginaw (Mich.) Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League has partnered with 7-Eleven for a new promotion for the upcoming 2007-2008 hockey season, Show your Cup and Save.

Fans who bring a 32-oz. or larger Big Gulp, Slurpee or coffee cup into the Spirit Store or TheDow Event Center receive an upper-level Spirit ticket for $7.11. The promotion will run from September 19-December 15; one $7.11 ticket per cup, no limit.

7-Eleven is looking forward to another big year associated with the Spirit. We've put together a great program with the 'Show your Cup and Save', said Larry Hauck, director of marketing for Saginaw-based Garb-Ko Inc.

7-Eleven is also once again sponsoring the team's start time of 7:11 p.m. for weekday and Saturday home games. Also returning for this season is the 7-Eleven Free Slurpee promotion: If the total score of a Spirit home game equals seven or eleven, every fan in attendance wins a free Slurpee.

We have had a great relationship with 7-Eleven since the first year of the Spirit project, said Spirit vice president of sales and marketing Brian Prout. This new promotion only strengthens our relationship and will drive traffic to both businesses.

West Des Moines, Iowa-based Kum & Go LC, through its partnership with Mediacom, is bringing the Kum & Go Game of the Week program directly to football fans' homes this year.

The Kum & Go Game of the Week will showcase Iowa high school football games from across the state of all season long.

We have big plans for this program, and feel it is a win-win situation for everyone involved, said Kyle Krause, CEO of Kum & Go. Later in the season, we'll introduce a Live Friday Night Game of the Week. We are also planning to archive all of the Kum & Go Games of the Week to VOD [video on demand] so people can access their favorite games all season long.
