National Convenience Distributors has acquired Colonial Wholesale Distributing Inc., expanding its reach into the Southeast.

Founded in 1998 and located in Tampa, Florida, Colonial Wholesale is one of the largest full-line wholesale distributors to the convenience and grocery store industries in the Southeast. The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the acquisition.

Colonial Distributing joins National Convenience Distributors (NCD) as a newly created division and expands NCD’s geographical reach along the East Coast from Maine to Florida. NCD now serves 13 states with annual revenues approaching $3.5 billion.

"The merger of Colonial Distributors with National Convenience Distributors greatly enhances the capabilities and product offerings that Colonial can now provide its customers," said Yasin Saad, founder of Colonial Distributors. "We built the state-of-the-art Colonial facilities with significant growth in mind. Now, as part of a larger organization, the opportunities throughout Colonial are greatly increased, and we look forward to continuing impressive growth."

Jeff Allen, chief executive officer of NCD, said the acquisition was a natural move in the consolidation of “the fragmented convenience wholesale distribution industry.”

“I’m proud that NCD is the leader when it comes to acquiring and integrating businesses in our market,” he said. “With this transaction, NCD not only continues its geographic expansion along the East Coast, it also strategically positions us to acquire additional industry leaders and strengthens our overall business relationships with our customers, vendors and employees."

National Convenience Distributors is one of the largest full-line, single source, convenience distributors in the United States. The company includes Allen Brothers Wholesale Distribution, Century Distributors, Colonial Distributing, Harold Levinson Associates, J. Polep Distribution, Rachael’s Food Corp. and Wustefeld Candy.

The company distributes candy, snacks, fresh sandwiches and salads, cigarettes and premium cigars, coffee, ice cream, and frozen and refrigerated foods. Based in Farmingdale, New York, NCD serves 23,800 customers in the eastern United States.
