Rutter's Presents Free Gas to Longtime Customer

Cenex fillups help schools

YORK, Pa. -- Charles Porter was in a hurry the day he registered for Rutter's Fuel Up Free! gasoline giveaway. But employees at Rutter's in Stewartstown coaxed him into filling out the entry form, explaining that they wanted a winner to come from their store.

Their wish came true. Porter is the first winner in Rutter's contest and will receive free gasoline for three years.

Rutter's president, Scott Hartmanaccompanied by a fuel tanker truckcalled on Porter and his wife, Susan, at their Stewartstown, Pa., home. Hartman presented [image-nocss] Porter with an oversized version of the debit cards that the couple can use for their gasoline (or any other) purchases at Rutter's.

Porter, a private security officer for a Baltimore development company, said he drives 100 miles daily, six days per week, to get to work. The high price of gasoline forced him to leave his pickup at home and instead drive his more fuel-efficient car.

Customers can enter the giveaway through October 1. The two remaining prize drawings are September 15 and October 15.

Family-owned and third generation-managed, York, Pa.-based Rutter's operates 50 convenience stores in York, Adams, Franklin and Lancaster counties.

Separately, Inver Grove Heights, Minn.-based CHS Inc. has announced that it will donate money to local schools every time a customer buys gasoline from a participating Cenex location during September.

This lighthearted Fuel Your School' promotion gives consumers one more great reason to feel good about filling their tanks with trusted, high-quality Cenex fuels, said Doug Dorfman, refined fuels marketing manager at CHS. Cenex convenience stores are known for being helpful. What better way to demonstrate that than by helping out our local schools?

CHS will donate a portion of the proceeds of each gallon of gasoline sold during September, plus $1 for every Cenex gift card sold worth $25 or more, to schools. In addition, each participating retail site will receive a $100 donation from CHS to kick off the program. Participating Cenex retailers will determine which local schools will receive their donations.

Cenex is the largest member-owned petroleum brand in North America, it said, meeting the energy needs of homeowners, businesses and communities through more than 1,600 local cooperatives, independent retailers and Cenex-identified c-stores from the Great Lakes to the Pacific Northwest and from the Canadian border to Texas. Its products include refined fuels, propane, lubricants and related equipment. Cenex is a brand of CHS, a diversified Fortune 500 company providing essential grain, food and energy resources.
