The Safeway Cents-Off Way

Seattle division rolls out new gas discount offer

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- The Seattle Division of Safeway Inc. launched a fuel promotion on May 26 that offers customers the opportunity to receive 10 cents off per gallon of gasoline automatically at any Safeway Fuel Station when they spend $50 on Safeway purchases through June 27, 2006, using their Safeway Club Card.

A total of eight discounts can be banked on a club card. Throughout the promotion, when a customer spends $50, any banked six-cent discounts will convert to a 10-cent discount. All 10-cent discounts must be redeemed by June 27 when the promotion [image-nocss] ends. Any unused discounts that are banked on the club card will revert back to a six-cent discount when the customer makes the next purchase of $50 or more.

"At a time when fuel prices are skyrocketing, every penny counts when filling up the tank," said Cherie Myers, director of public and government affairs for Safeway's Seattle Division. "In the first few days of the promotion, our customers have responded unanimously by lining up to fill their tanks."

Safeway customers can maximize their savings in the stores by taking it to the pump and filling up. The savings continue to mount when paying by a debit card with no fees that are often incurred at other fuel stations, the company said.

Safeway operates 1,772 stores in the United States and Canada and had annual sales of $38.4 billion in 2005. Its Seattle Division operates 200 stores in Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho.
