Sheetz Honored in Ohio

Ranked among the top 10 best places to work in Buckeye State

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz Inc. has been named the sixth Best Large Employer in the state of Ohio.

Ohio Lieutenant Governor Bruce Johnson presented Sheetz with this award for its efforts to provide an outstanding workplace while keeping employees satisfied. Notably, the quarterly employee bonus program and full benefits for part-time employees who work 20 or more hours each week helped get Sheetz this recognition.

"This honor is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of our employees," said Stan Sheetz, president and CEO of the [image-nocss] Altoona, Pa.-based company. "A primary corporate objective is for our employees to want to be at workto enjoy it. We're continually learning what employees and customers want, and we constantly try to improve those things. We've received similar recognition in Pennsylvania. It feels great to know we are able to provide our Ohio employees with the same gratifying work experience."

This was the first year for such awards to be given in the state of Ohio. The program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Ohio.

Winners were chosen by the Best Companies Group through a two-part process of evaluation; 25% percent of a company's score was based on workplace policies, philosophy, systems and demographics, while 75% consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. The combined scores determined the final rankings.

The Sheetz chain was one of 10 companies of 200 employees or more to receive the honor; 10 additional awards were given to medium-sized companies.

Established by Bob Sheetz as a single store in 1952, Altoona, Pennsylvania, based Sheetz, Inc. is one of America's fastest growing family- owned and operated convenience store chains, with more than $3.4 billion in revenue in 2005 and more than 10,000 employees. Sheetz provides an award-winning menu of Made-to-Order subs, sandwiches and salads, which are ordered through unique touch-screen order point terminals. Sheetz currently ranks 87 on the Forbes list of largest private companies.
