GREENVILLE, S.C. — Fuel and convenience retailer The Spinx Co. has begun piloting a self-checkout program. Spinx has a goal to go live with self-checkout at all Spinx stores in the second and third quarters of 2022.

“At Spinx, we exist to make people’s lives easier. By providing the self-checkout option to our customers, they will be able to stop at our store, shop for what they need and quickly and easily get back on their way," said Stan Storti, president of Spinx. “We’ve heard from some peers in the industry that customers can get upset and interpret the implementation of this technology as reducing jobs, but in our case, nothing could be further from the truth. We’re moving our teammates’ efforts from checking out customers to keeping our stores, ‘Spinx Clean.’ Spinx Clean is a program we initiated late last year, and it’s designed to keep our stores not just looking clean but being sterilized.”

“Self-checkout is not a new concept; however, within our industry it is considered very cutting edge and we are thrilled to be leading the charge here at the local level,” said Stewart Spinx, founder and chairman of the board for The Spinx Co.

Spinx is piloting the program at store No. 112 on Pendleton Street in Greenville. Four additional stores are planning to offer this service as part of the pilot program by end of Fall 2021.

The Spinx Co. is No. 79 on CSP’s 2021 Top 202 ranking of c-stores by store count. Founded in 1972 in Greenville, S.C., The Spinx Co. operates 82 convenience retail stores throughout South Carolina, with approximately 1,400 employees. Through the Spinx Xtras Loyalty program and the Spinx mobile app, the company offers its loyal customers savings on fuel and special promotions.
