Wilson Farms, Sugarcreek Stores Fundraisers Fight Blood Cancer

C-stores host events to benefit Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- September marks the annual observance of Leukemia, Lymphoma & Myeloma Awareness Month, a time to commemorate more than 785,000 U.S. patients currently battling blood cancers. To help raise money and awareness for this important cause, Wilson Farms, Sugar Creek and Wilson Farms Xpress stores are sponsoring three fundraising events: a hot beverage sales donation day; in-store paper balloon sales; and the upcoming Light the Night Walks in Western, N.Y.

On Sept. 12, 2006, all 198 Wilson Farms, Sugarcreek and Wilson Farms Xpress stores [image-nocss] throughout New York State will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of all hot beverages to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Funds raised will support blood cancer research, local patient aid and services provided by the society.

At Wilson Farms, it's important for us to play an active role in supporting local nonprofit organizations, said Paul Nanula, president and CEO of Wilson Farms. Blood cancer is a tragic disease that affects countless lives and we are proud to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Societyan organization that touches so many. We are asking communities throughout New York State to join us in the fight against cancer by purchasing a hot beverage of their choice on September 12, from any of our stores to support this great cause.

In addition, now through October 7, Wilson Farms customers may donate $1 or $5 to support area chapters of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Customers who donate $1 will receive a paper balloon on which they may sign their name and display in the store to commemorate lives touched by cancer. Customers who donate $5 will receive a red blood cancer awareness wrist band and a larger size paper balloon.

September is also the month that officially kicks off The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light The Night Walk, an annual event held each fall in communities across the country to honor lives touched by blood cancer and to raise funds for research and patient services.

Nanula his wife Karen will serve as general chairmen of the local chapter's Annual Light The Night Walks. As part of their commitment, all Wilson Farms stores in Western, N.Y., will form a team of walkers.

The community is also invited to build a team of friends and neighbors to walk in Light The Night, on Friday, October 6, at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester, and Saturday, October 7, at Delaware Park in Buffalo. During the two mile walk, participants carry illuminated balloonswhite for cancer survivors and red for cancer supportersto brighten the sky and to commemorate lives touched by cancer.
