SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Along with the new year comes new regulation of vaping products in Illinois.
Two laws passed by the state legislature this year and enacted Jan. 1, 2015, will:
- Require “electronic cigarette cartridges and liquids sold and marketed for the refilling of e-cigarette cartridges may be sold only in special packaging.”
- E-cigarettes and vapor products must be kept behind store counters in an age-restricted area or in a sealed display case.
Specifically, e-juice must be packaged child-proof bottles—something most e-vapor juice manufacturers already do—while the products themselves must be stored out of reach from consumers.
The child-proof caps on liquid nicotine are similar to those on bottles of medication, according to report. Some manufacturers have also added plastic seals around caps to make sure the bottle hasn't been tampered with.
The new laws, which are amendments to the Illinois Poison Prevention Packaging Act, were passed in August with the specific goal of protecting children
