What Flavors Are Youth Vaping?

SILVER SPRING, Md. — Among youth who currently use electronic cigarettes, nearly 85% reported using flavored e-cigarettes in the 2022 National Youth Tobacco Survey.

The survey, conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, comes at a time when the FDA is cracking down on illegal sales of flavored vapor and reviewing applications for flavored electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) through the premarket tobacco product application (PMTA) process. In 2022, about 2.5 million U.S. middle and high school students used e-cigarettes, the FDA said.

So what flavors are these current youth users—which the report defines as someone who has used an e-cigarette in the last 30 days—drawn to? Out of the 84.9% who said they used flavored e-cigarettes, the  most popular flavors were:

As similar pattern was noticed among current users of flavored disposable e-cigarettes, the FDA said. Those most-used flavors were:

Flavored pods or cartridges and tanks or mod systems also had fruit at the top of the flavor list, followed by candy, desserts or other sweets.
