PHILADELPHIA —Alcohol orders on goPuff increased exponentially during the first half of 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
One of the top alcohol beverages ordered was hard seltzers, according to goPuff’s survey of a random sample of 3,000 goPuff adult customers nationwide.
Through the survey, an analysis of beverage sales and trend data, the Philadelphia-based delivery company and online convenience store determined this year’s summer beverage trends.
“With a vertically integrated model, we’re able to leverage real-time sales, unique behavioral and survey data to understand the beverages goPuff customers love most—and make predictions about future consumer behavior,” Daniel Folkman, vice president of business at goPuff, said. “The past few months have brought about new ways of life for many of us, and as we continuously work to analyze and predict trends for our partners, we identified that Americans have shown an increased interest in having beverages of all kinds delivered, with a few standout favorites.”

Hard and spiked seltzers dominated the alcohol beverage field with unit sales and orders, with domestic beer and red wine following closely behind, according to goPuff.
About 48% of goPuff customers prefer White Claw’s hard seltzer, with Black Cherry, Lemonade and Mango among the most-ordered flavors.
As far as what people said they plan to drink this summer, 28% of goPuff customers said beer, 26% said hard seltzers and 19% said wine.
Non-alcohol seltzer sales saw a 63% increase in sales from March to April. Popular brands included Waterloo and Spindrift, goPuff said.
With many people quarantined at home amid the coronavirus outbreak, goPuff customers are now more likely to order alcohol between noon and 6 p.m. and less likely to order it between 6 p.m. and midnight, compared to last year.
goPuff customers are also more likely to order alcohol on weekdays than they were in 2019; however, there are still high alcohol sales on the weekends, too, it said.
goPuff saw a 210% increase in energy drinks since the start of 2020, with Red Bull and Monster topping the sales list. Reign is also a popular brand, goPuff said.
Sports drinks like BodyArmor, Gatorade, Powerade and Vitamin Water have also seen recent sales growth.
goPuff operates in more than 500 cities including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Miami, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Seattle, Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C.
It has centrally located facilities in every market it serves and delivers thousands of products for a flat $1.95 delivery charge. goPuff is open 24/7 in most areas.
