Override Expands Into Connecticut

Customers at Shaw's, Irving, Gulf outlets can lower gas price through rewards program
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- Override, a New England-based fuel rewards program, will become available at select locations throughout Connecticut beginning May 15. The program offers savings on the price of gasoline when customers purchase groceries at participating Shaw's Supermarkets in eastern Connecticut. Earned savings can then be redeemed at participating Irving Oil and Gulf Oil gas stations.

"Bringing this program to the Connecticut market is a huge and exciting step for us, and we're sure that our customers will respond to it just as they have throughout the rest of New England," [image-nocss] said Shaw's president Larry Wahlstrom. "To lower your price of gas at Gulf or Irving, all you have to do is use your Shaw's Rewards Card when you make a minimum purchase. You don't have to do anything differently than what you do today."

A total of 20 Shaw's Supermarkets, 27 Gulf and five Irving stations will be online May 15. The towns where a fuel customer can both earn and redeem gasoline savings at participating locations include Manchester, Bristol, Vernon, Newington, Hamden, New Haven, Wallingford, Darien, East Hartford, West Hartford, Willimantic and more.

"Gulf Oil has seen clear benefits from this program for the driving public, and we are excited to bring these benefits to Connecticut," said Gulf Oil president and COO Ron Sabia. "We have experienced an increase in redemption traffic at existing locations. In addition, the Override program is a differentiator that is helping expand Gulf's family of stations under the Gulf Flag. It fits well into our strategy to grow as the leading downstream energy distribution company."

A minimum purchase of $50 with a Shaw's Rewards Card earns 10 cents off the price of a gallon of gas at a participating Gulf or Irving station. The greater the purchase, the higher the savings. Customers can earn up to 60 cents off a gallon of gasoline, up to 20 gallons, on a single purchase. Earned savings are applied directly onto the Shaw's Rewards Card, which can then be swiped at the pump to rollback the price of gasoline at participating Irving or Gulf retail fuel outlets.

"This is a powerful, effective savings program that allows people to save simply by shopping the way they always do," said Harry Hadiaris, general manager for Irving Oil Marketing Inc. "In order to save, you don't have to buy anything you don't want, and you can shop at retailers you trust."

Savings are valid for 14 days, but if consumers make more than one minimum purchase within any 14-day period, the savings earned from each of those separate purchases can be combined. This will allow consumers to lower their gasoline price even more.

Anyone participating in the program can track their rewards and learn about new savings opportunities by registering their Shaw's Rewards Card at www.Override.com.

"People everywhere are becoming very smart about their shopping, and are finding new ways to add to their household budgets. We've returned more than $13 million directly into the pockets of thousands of consumers, and we think that Override will be a welcome addition for anyone in Connecticut who is trying to make each dollar stretch further," said Override CEO Mike Crosby.
