Price Chopper, Sunoco Launch Fuel AdvantEdge in N.Y.'s Capital Region

Consumers to get discounted gasoline at 70 locations with food purchases
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Price Chopper has launched "Fuel AdvantEdge," an exclusive program never before offered in the Capital Region marketplace in upstate New York, in partnership with more than 70 local Sunoco stations that discount gasoline as a reward for grocery store purchases. In an effort to build additional value into the Price Chopper AdvantEdge card, which offers consumers savings on groceries, general merchandise and tickets to community events, the supermarket chain will kick off Fuel AdvantEdge in all of its Capital Region locations on Monday.

Fuel AdvantEdge [image-nocss] is an ongoing, cumulative savings/reward program that gives consumers a 10-cents-per-gallon discount on gasoline purchases for every $50 of groceries purchased (20 cents per gallon on $100 purchased, 30 cents per gallon on $150 purchased, etc.).

Unlike other reward programs, consumers can accumulate their points/dollars spent across a 90-day timeframe and cash in on their gasoline discount for up to 20 gallons at their convenience, the company said.

Neil Golub, president and CEO of Price Chopper, who praised the company's supply chain integration team for its efforts in committing and converting more than 70 gas stations throughout the Capital Region to the program, said that the number of participating stations is expected to grow.

"In other areas where Price Chopper has tested this program, we have customers saving 50, 60 cents, even a dollar or more per gallon through the Fuel AdvantEdge program," said Jeff Hassman, channel marketing manager for Philadelphia-based Sunoco.

The program will be promoted heavily throughout the media, as well as in all Price Chopper stores and at all participating stations. Additionally, Price Chopper will deliver the Fuel AdvantEdge savings message via its coupon-dispensing programs, Checkout Rewards and the iSave Today kiosks, and its website, www.pricechopper.com.

Based in Schenectady, N.Y., the Golub Corp. owns and operates 119 Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire.

Sunoco is a leading manufacturer and marketer of petroleum and petrochemical products with 900,000 barrels per day of refining capacity, more than 4,700 retail sites selling gasoline and convenience items, approximately 5,400 miles of crude oil and refined product owned and operated pipelines and 38 product terminals.
