The Return of Full Service...for a Cause

Volunteers at Mega Holiday stations pump gas, wash windows for Special Olympics
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- Mega Holiday gas stations throughout the Chippewa Valley in Wisconsin became full-service stations for the day on April 24 as the stations hosted the fifth-annual Filling the Dream fundraiser for Indianhead Area Special Olympics.

Mega is donating five cents to Special Olympics for every gallon of gasoline that was pumped on that day from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Among the volunteer gasoline pumpers and window washers at various locations were the Predators Football team, UW Eau Claire's Women's Basketball team, National Guard, AmVets, Fall Creek [image-nocss] National Honor Society, Ski Sprites, Lion's International members, CVTC criminal justice students, One Tree Martial Arts, Luther-Midelfor employees, Special Olympics families and athletes, UWEC college organizations, Sacred Heart Hospital, United Health, Eau Claire Police Department and County Sheriff's Department, Chippewa Falls Police Department and County, UWEC Law Enforcement, Altoona Police and Fire, and correctional officers from Chippewa Correctional.

During the month of April, all 18 Mega Foods, Mega Holiday Gas and Mega Lubes have been selling "We Support Special Olympics Icons and coupons." Those donating $1 will receive coupons good for a free cup of coffee and a bottled water and $1 off pizza, chips and Pepsi.

The company estimates that it will sell more than $10,000 worth of coupons.

Last year, volunteers pumped more than 40,000 gallons of gasoline and raised more than $17,000; this year, the company hopes to raise at least $20,000, it said.

In late 2008, Eau Claire, Wis.-based Mega Express turned 10 of its gas station/convenience stores into Holiday Stationstores The company also operates three Mega Foods grocery stores and several Mega Lube & Oil and Mega Splash car wash locations. The Mega Fuels division delivers petroleum products for the Mega Express stores as well as for bulk commercial needs. Retail gasoline brands currently include BP, Cenex and Mobil.

Bloomington, Minn.-based Holiday Stationstores has approximately 300 corporately owned gas station/c-stores located throughout 12 states in the northern tier region of the United States: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho and Washington, as well as in Alaska. It also has more than 100 franchise locations throughout Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin.
