Wawa in the Blood

Spring drive includes more than 20 donation opportunities; stair climb benefits CFF
WAWA, Pa. -- From February 3 through April 16, Wawa Inc. is hosting more than 20 blood drive sites in four of their operating states: Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia. The goal for this year is to collect 2,000 pints of blood, the Wawa, Pa.-based convenience retailer said.

Wawa associates have supported the American Red Cross blood drives for more than two decades. During the past five years, more than 10,000 pints of blood have been collected at Wawa's chain wide blood drives. Wawa's blood drives are open to the public. They are staffed by Wawa volunteers, [image-nocss] who give of their time, and they donate their blood for this important, life-saving effort; a single blood donation can help as many as three people. As an added incentive, successful donors will receive a coupon for a free pint of 100% Wawa juice.

Wawa on February 22 also sponsored the 22nd annual Wawa Stair Climb to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF), a nonprofit donor-supported organization that seeks to cure and control cystic fibrosis and improve the quality of life for those living with the disease. Wawa's annual stair climb challenges participants to climb 1,019 stairs to the top of Philadelphia's Mellon Bank Center in an effort to support the mission of the CFF in a unique and challenging way.

Dozens of Wawa associates joined local officials and hundreds of participants to climb for a cure on all 53 floors of the Mellon Bank Center. After eating a breakfast treats provided courtesy of Wawa, climbers took part in events.

"The CFF supports a cause near and dear to the hearts of our customers and our associates-- the health and well being of children in our area," said Carol Jensen, Wawa's chief marketing officer and board member of the CFF. "We are very aware that the CFF is close to finding a cure and we have a real sense of urgency and are committed to doing everything in our power to help make the prospect of a cure a genuine reality."

In addition to being a sponsor of the climb for over two decades, Wawa partnered with CBS-3 to feature the Stair Climb as part of the February Brotherly Love series promoting and encouraging people helping people.

Wawa operates more than 560 stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
