Reynolds Raises Cigarette Prices, Too

Increases range from 9 cents to 49 cents per pack

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Following the lead of its competition, R.J. Reynolds announced it will increase list prices on specific cigarette brands by different amounts this month, according to New York-based RBC Capital Markets.

Effective with shipments deployed after March 22, Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Reynolds will increase its list price by 9 cents per pack on what it calls its “drive” brands, which include Camel, Newport, Pall Mall, Dunhill, Eclipse, Red Kamel and State Express 555. The 9-cent increase will also apply to its superpremium cigarette brand, Natural American Spirit, according to RBC.

The price of other brands—Doral, Kent, True, Old Gold, Camel (nonfilter), GPC, Misty, Capri, Carlton, Lucky Strike, More, Now, Pall Mall, Tareyton, Vantage and Monarch—will increase by 49 cents a pack.

The company is also raising prices on Natural American Spirit roll-your-own products. Its 144-pouch case will increase in price by 10 cents per pouch and the six-count case tin will rise by 40 cents per tin.

Reynolds' increases follow a similar move by Richmond, Va.-based Altria Group Inc., which on March 21 announced a list-price increase on all its cigarette brands of 9 cents per pack.
