Chain plans up to 60 locations in North Carolina market
TULSA, Okla. -- QuikTrip is planning a major entry into the Charlotte, N.C., market with up to 60 convenience stores during the next five years, according to a report by The Charlotte Business Journal.

"We are coming to Charlotte," Mike Thornbrugh, QuikTrip manager of public and government affairs, told the newspaper. He declined to say how many stores the company plans to build in the region.

But real-estate sources familiar with the Tulsa, Okla.-based company's plans told the paper that at least 30 stores are in the works and the total number will likely [image-nocss] be double that.

"Once we make a commitment to go to a market, we will have quite an impact there," Thornbrugh added.

Thornbrugh confirmed for CSP Daily News that the company is entering the Charlotte market, but would provide no more details.

Plans were recently revealed concerning QuikTrip's entry into South Carolina with a new store in Spartanburg. The new, 5,000-square-foot store will be one of the first QuikTrips in the state when it opens in late 2011.(Click here for previous CSP Daily News coverage.)
