Convenience-store chain Sheetz said electric-vehicle drivers have charged their vehicles at its 650 charging stations over 2 million times, and demand is picking up.
“Generally, as EV adoption grows across the U.S., demand at the chargers continues to grow. Sheetz is committed to expanding access to EV charging to meet the needs of our customers,” spokesperson Harry Hammel said.
Sheetz, based in Altoona, Pennsylvania, has installed four to eight chargers at 95 store locations in its six states, including Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina, Hammel said.
“With nearly 700 stores across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and Ohio, Sheetz has an established infrastructure with plans to expand our electric-vehicle charging network in the future,” said Trevor Walter, vice president of petroleum supply management at Sheetz. “Charging customers also have access to safe, well-lit locations offering Made-to-Order food, premium coffee, restaurant-style seating and more, all open 24/7/365.”
“Our goal at Sheetz has always been to be the ultimate one-stop shop, to help customers to refuel or recharge your car and refresh your body. With the market for electric vehicles gaining popularity, Sheetz is committed to building a network now for the future needs of our customers,” Walter said.

The company also offers consumers alternative fuels, including E85, or flex fuel, which is available at more than 375 Sheetz locations. To raise awareness of the biofuel blend, Sheetz has reduced the per-gallon price of E85 to $1.85 a gallon in a promotion running through April 30.
The promotion-oriented retailer also cut prices on premium, midgrade and ethanol-free fuel gradesin March for in a March Madness promotion, and it reduced diesel prices by 50 cents a gallon in January.
As for EV charging prices, they vary by Sheetz location. EV charger customers pay per minute or per kilowatt hour for electric charging, Hammel said, noting the company works with charging network providers to offer various charging options.
