ENON, Ohio --Speedway LLC has been named as the first recipient of the Ethanol Infrastructure Grant Program offered by the Ohio Corn Marketing Program (OCMP).

Gas-station and convenience-store retailer Speedway, based in Enon, Ohio, will use the grant to increase ethanol availability in Franklin, Hancock, Lake, Cuyahoga, Warren and Clark counties in the Buckeye State.

The grant program creates the opportunity for fuel retailers to significantly expand the reach of ethanol in Ohio through financial support for the purchase and installation of dispensing equipment that is compatible with ethanol-blended fuels, the group said.

“Over 722,000 Ohio motorists are driving flex-fuel vehicles, and they deserve access to efficient and clean-burning ethanol,” said Tadd Nicholson, executive director of OCMP. OCMP is working in partnership with Guardian Energy to financially support the program. Guardian Energy operates an ethanol plant in Lima, Ohio. The American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest and the American Lung Association of the Midland States assist in administering the grants.

Additional grants for fuel retailers are still available for a limited time, the groups said.

The Ethanol Infrastructure Grant Program details include a funding structure to aid in the purchase of ethanol-compatible fuel dispensing equipment and site work (tanks) to accommodate installation.

The program gives priority to fuel retailers looking to install in multiple locations.

Speedway, a subsidiary of Marathon Petroleum Corp. (MPC), Findlay, Ohio, owns and operates approximately 2,750 gas stations and convenience stores in 22 states.
